Hannah listened intently at the door for the noises. The soft, uncertain noises. The noises that she had heard in the dead of night before her brother was taken from her. Noises that seemed to always accompany the Glowing Man.
But this door was in the kitchen of Reave Castle! The king had promised that the Glowing Man couldn’t get in here! And the door didn’t lead outside, but instead went deeper into the royal home. It led to the cellars below where they stored the winter root vegetables, the oil, the dried herbs and the cooking wine. There was another door down there that connected the cellar to the rest of the castle’s lower levels, but those, too, were secure. Nothing could be down there. Certainly not the Glowing Man.
